Summary

It is important to learn from the experience of 50 years animal health management and eradication programs in Europe while European Union’s institutions are working to build a new regulation framework for Animal Health. Bovine Tuberculosis is very interesting and instructive example for this work. It was one of the first regulated animal diseases in the Common Market. Today, with the strong involvement of European and national authorities, with the mobilisation of farmers and their veterinarians, 15 members States are officially free of Bovine Tuberculosis. But the disease is still present in EU and also in wildlife; re-emergences are in progress in some areas. In front of this situation, farmers and veterinarians are very concerned. A lot of them ask for an improvement of the prophylaxis. As farmers’ organisation and in partnership with Veterinarian Epidemiology Organisations from Belgium (AESA and VEE) we decided to host a joint Conference on this issue
