Today Wednesday, October 22 took place in the Real Casa de Correos in Madrid, the Community of Madrid grant of R&D Activities Technology 2014-2018 Programmes, with the acceptance of Advanced Technologies in Health Surveillance Programme coordinated by VISAVET Centre of Complutense University of Madrid which was submitted to this call for support for the implementation of programs of R&D activities which rewards the best projects between research groups from the Community of Madrid. The Complutense University of Madrid gets in total funding for research coordinators 6 groups of programs in different areas of the call. The event was chaired by the Community of Madrid President, Ignacio Gonzalez Jaime, the Education, Youth and Sports Councillor, Mrs. Lucia Figar, and Education, Youth and Sports Deputy Councilor Mrs. Alicia Delibes.

The Adavance Technnologies in Health Surveillance (ATHS) programme proposes the application of emerging technologies in the Agrifood Area to improve the quality and food safety together with the eficiency in agricultural and livestock production, following the recomendations by the FAO, European Union and WHO for next decades. The programme framework covers the whole food chain according to the approach from the farm to the fork.

This program is in accordance with the objectives of the Agri-Food and Health Cluster of Campus Moncloa and reflects the existing aggregation between aggregates of the Campus of International Excellence.

The ATHS consortium is a multidisciplinary team of 13 complementary research groups leaders in Public and Animal Health, Food Safety and Environment. They belong to five of the most renowned Spanish scientific institutions (Universidad Complutense Madrid (UCM), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria (INIA), Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) y Centro de Investigaciones, Energéticas, Medioambientales, y Tecnologías (CIEMAT) that have shown their success participating in two previous calls of R+D Activities Program of the CM. Moreover, the consortium is enhanced by the participation of one laboratory belonging to the RELAB, as well as public administrations, nonprofit entities and leading companies to all involved sectors, that participate as associated organisms assuring technology transfer.

The objetives for the consortium ATHS are included in the Agrifood and Biotechnology Area, and are focused in two main lines of the call: Advanced technologies for production and charaterization of functional food, quality improvement and food safety and New agricultural and livestock production systems.

The importance of the ATHS programme lies in the application of next generation systems, available in the consortium, to solve real problems of companies and administrations from different point of views, with the main objective to establish confluent and synegistic strategies to obtain effective, rapid and economically affordable solutions that covers the full complexity of the problem.
