“Surveillance network of reoviruses, bluetongue and African horse sickness in the Mediterranean basin and Europe (Medreonet)” is a European network aiming to increase surveillance of diseases transmitted by Culicoides: Bluetongue, African horse sickness and epizootic hemorrhagic disease.

Medreonet objectives are based on collaboration of different institutions involved in the sharing and exchange data, experience and information through regular meetings, maintenance and improvement of surveillance systems as well as the development of European databases which include surveillance records, prevalence, virus isolation and use of vaccines. It also focuses on the development of diagnostic and monitoring tools, ensuring the dissemination of this information to all member institutions.

Medreonet comprises 21 institutions from countries in Europe, North Africa, Turkey and South Africa. All laboratories participating in this network are the reference centers or agencies that have extensive experience in the diagnosis and prevention of diseases transmitted by Culicoides.
