The VISAVET Health Surveillance Center of the Complutense University of Madrid has started the analysis of samples for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 together with Saluvet Innova, the Antimicrobial Resistance Unit and the Molecular Basis of Adaptation laboratory.

The UCM creates a network of laboratories with the aim of supoprting the diagnosis of COVID-19 in this epidemic crisis, where specialists in health, infectious diseases and molecular biology from different research groups and UCM centers provide PCR equipment and staff.

This initiative, promoted in social media by the researcher José Manuel Bautista, involves research groups from the Biological Sciences, Medicine, Optics and Veterinary faculties, Saluvet Innova, the CAI of Biological Techniques, the CIEMAT and the VISAVET center, joining their scientific resources in the detection of the coronavirus under the tutelage and support of the Carlos III Health Institute.

VISAVET is the centralized sample reception point at the Complutense University of Madrid and carries out the first step in the analysis procedure in its biological containment facilities. The samples to be analyzed will arrive at the center only through the channels enabled by the health authorities.
