Bioinformatician position (WGS analysis)

A one-year position for a bioinformatician is open in the VISAVET Heath Research Center to work on WGS data generated through several research projects focused on studying the epidemiology of zoonotic bacterial diseases. Duration of the contract may be extended conditional on performance.

Responsibilities of the job include:

  • Installation and maintenance of different bioinformatic pipelines
  • Script and optimization of WGS pipelines/methods
  • hands-on training of laboratory personnel in the analysis of WGS data, including working in the command-line and Python/R coding
  • Collaborating in writing research papers and projects, assisting to scientific meetings as part of national and international projects.

Position requirements:

  • Master or PhD on bioinformatics and WGS data analysis (preferably based on bacterial WGS)
  • Knowledge of R and Python
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent English knowledge
  • Experience as first, last or corresponding author in peer-reviewed scientific publications

Hosting conditions and research facilities: the successful candidate will join the VISAVET Health Surveillance center, a research center working in the fields of Animal Health, Public Health and Food Safety, that currently hosts the Spanish Veterinary Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Network and the European Reference Laboratory for Bovine Tuberculosis. He/she will be involved in the research program of the One Health EJP Project and will have the opportunity to attend international meetings and conferences. The salary will be commensurate to the candidate experience and qualifications.
