Equine Herpesvirus type 1 as a cause of neurological signs

Equine Herpesvirus type 1 (EHV-1) is a common virus which is distributed worldwide and causes respiratory disease in young horses, abortion in mares and myeloencephalopathy in horses of any age. In this article we summarise the initial measures to be taken in a premises with a suspicion of infection by EHV-1, as well as the samples to be taken, the tests to be carried out for the diagnosis and the control measures to be implemented once the diagnosis has been confirmed.
