July 10th, 2015

The common swift is migratory insectivorous and each year draws to Madrid from Africa and remains with us from April to July.

Summer right now is in breeding period and numerous immature chicks nest fall to the ground where they are rescued by the citizens.

Municipal Services of Madrid are receiving numerous calls for help for these animals, having made between the Police Environmental Unit of Madrid and SEVEMUR removed 250 birds since early June. One of the specialized Rods in the care and recovery of swifts have received more than 3,000 immature for these dates.

In the following links you can find information provided by GREFA (Recovery Group Native Species) and SEO (Spanish Ornithological Society) home about helping young swifts until his release. The care they need can be provided at home, thereby helping to bring up these birds which, by their nature insectivore play an important role in the ecosystem of our city.
