Resumen

For this decade, previously FMD-free countries in East Asia such as Japan, RO Korea and Chinese Taipei, were affected by FMD outbreaks, resulted in economic loss which said to be the biggest damage in the history of their livestock productions. This fact re-emphasised the need for a global, regional and sub-regional cooperation for FMD control.
The OIE/JTF Project on FMD Control in Asia is an initiative of the OIE and the Japanese Government, launched in 2011. This aims at promoting information sharing of FMD in the region, developing strategies and establishing a Roadmap for FMD Control in East Asia, strengthening capacity of diagnosis and improving FMD control measures at national and regional level.
The project activity plan includes the organisation of a series of National Contact Person (NCP) meetings to discuss the Roadmap, an annual Coordination Committee (CC) Meeting, and a bi-annual FMD Scientific Meeting for East Asia, as well as field activities in some eligible countries.
Since this project is about to finish in July 2015, members agreed to have the final meeting in Tokyo. This 4th round of CC Meeting will be held back to back with the 2nd Scientific Meeting for East Asia on 9-11 June 2015 in Tokyo, Japan.
The objectives of the meetings are: i) to discuss the FMD Roadmap for East Asia; ii) to exchange scientific information; iii) to exchange information on national FMD strategies and implementation; iv) to report the progress; v) to extend the project towards other emerging issues in the region; and vi) to explore the way forward
