A multiplex PCR-assay (m-PCR) was designed for the simultaneous detection of the main pathogens involved in diseases for rainbow trout (Yersinia ruckeri, Streptococcus iniae and Lactococcus garvieae). Each of the three pairs of oligonucleotide primers used in the multiplex PCR amplified the targeted gene of the corresponding microorganism. However, the primers described for the PCR assay to detection of S. iniae were not specific enough, since amplifications with the DNA from Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus difficilis were observed. Therefore, it could be necessary to find an useful alternative PCR method for the diagnosis of S. iniae infections
