The bTB eradication programme in Spain – the role of the EU Reference Laboratory

The presentation will discuss the main features of the bovine tuberculosis eradication programme in Spain including an overview of the current situation together with the strategic plan for future control and eradication. The evolution of this programme will be discussed as well as the key and scientific elements of the current scenario. Based on the lessons learned during the execution of the eradication programme in Spain in the last decades, the main challenges will be listed along with feasible actions that can be implemented in the near future. Moreover, the role of the European Union Reference Laboratory (EU-RL) for Bovine Tuberculosis as an actor contributing to the efforts devoted to eradicate this disease in the European Member States will be presented. The working programme, workshops, ring trials and training activities performed by the EU-RL will be discussed together with the role of the EU-RL within the Regulation 2016/429 (Animal Health Law).
