Biography
Degree in Veterinary Medicine in the Complutense University of Madrid (1996-2001) and Doctor in Veterinary Medicine in the same University with the thesis entitled "Caprine tuberculosis: study of the immune response and contributions to its diagnosis" (2011).
He currently works as a professor in the Department of Animal Health of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UCM, to which he was previously linked as a Juan de la Cierva researcher. He is also a collaborator of the Mycobacteria Unit and the European Reference Laboratory (EU-RL) for Bovine Tuberculosis of VISAVET -UCM, where he is head of the Clinical Trials Service. His main line of research is related to the evaluation and improvement of diagnostic tests and vaccines against tuberculosis in domestic ruminants.
Author of more than 80 scientific publications in indexed journals and more than 200 presentations in national and international congresses. He has participated in more than 20 national and international projects and in the evaluation of co-funded tuberculosis eradication programs for the European Commission and as an invited expert for the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA). He has been part of the DEFRA Science Oversight Group for the development of experimental tests for vaccination against tuberculosis in cattle and various work groups related to the control and eradication of bovine tuberculosis. He collaborates as a reviewer and is part of the editorial panel of several international journals and has been included among the 20 largest experts in bovine tuberculosis in the world according to the Expertscape web portal. In recent years he has been mainly involved in conducting field and experimental tests for the evaluation, development and improvement of diagnostic techniques and vaccines against tuberculosis.
