The Animal Facilities and Clinical Trials Unit at the Visavet center of the Complutense University of Madrid is responsible for managing the different facilities dedicated to animal research projects within the center and experimental farms, as well as conducting clinical trials.
Clinical Trials (EC) is responsible for designing, directing, and coordinating all field experiences involving the use of laboratory animals, both those resulting from research directly conducted by Visavet and those derived from services provided to other research centers or companies. It is also responsible for ensuring the welfare of animals during experimental testing and for carrying out procedures or supervising and ensuring their compliance to achieve the previously established objectives. Regarding research, EC primarily focuses on the search for and development of experimental models, including the search for alternatives that do not require the use of animals, and the evaluation of different products applicable to animal health, mainly reagents for disease diagnosis and vaccines. In this regard, EC conducts research on natural transmission models and efficacy and protection indicators using different immunological techniques and innovative systems for assessing the pathogenicity and virulence of microorganisms.
